Carving Pumpkins

Wednesday Night was carving Pumpkin Night!

We bought pumpkins a few weeks ago from the local WalMart; and just to give you a rundown of "Kodiak Pumpkins" -- WalMart sold them for $6.99 each, no matter the size - VS. - Safeway for $18.99 each!  WalMart's pumpkins sold out in 3 days...Safeway still has pumpkins, and now is the ONLY place to actually buy a pumpkin on the island.

So, the minute I caught word that WalMart had pumpkins we were on the island, we were there that night picking out 4 pumpkins.  Given, this was about 3 weeks ago...and pumpkins cannot be carved too soon because they get really moldy really quick here in Kodiak.  So, we waited until now to carve those suckers.

Emily had a blast.  She designed a pumpkin face and here and daddy drew it together and cut it together...so sweet!  Her pumpkin had heart-eyes and all! (her idea!)

Ethan, on the other hand, wanted nothing to do with carving the pumpkin!  He wanted to stab the thing to death repeatedly with the pumpkin-safe knife.  Mommy and Ethan tried to carve his pumpkin, but anytime mommy would try to help, Ethan would begin to scream and cry...his jack-o-lantern ended up nicely, but it was a pain in the butt to work with him on this!

Our New Ride

Here are some pictures of our "new ride"...

It was the right price, and the right trailer for our journey home next summer!  We are looking forward to the long road trip back to America, and (hopefully) California.

(We won't actually "own" it for another 10 years, but we're sure going to have a lot of fun with it while we're paying it off!!)

Haircut...FINALLY!

Emily and I got our haircut on Tuesday night.  It is nearly impossible to get an appointment at a salon here, and usually you need to schedule appointments at least 3 months out.  We've had quite a few hair appointments scheduled, but by the time the actual appointment comes around something always comes up...the kids are sick, Chris has duty that day, I end up having to work late.  It's not easy getting your hair cut around here!

But, it all finally worked out.  Emily's ends are clean, and my hair is at my shoulders once again.  One of the cool things though, is that we shared mommy & daughter feathers.  Now, maybe this fad has already faded back in America, but Emily is stoked to have a pink & black striped feather in her hair (mine is a boring & discrete blond color.)

Here are some pics from our evening...

Will it be a White Christmas???

BIG NEWS!

This year WILL NOT be a White Christmas for the Moore Family!  As the children get older we have felt a need and desire to share the Holiday Season with the people who love us most...Our Family and Friends.  So, California Here We Come!!

We will be Coming Home for Christmas!

We missed out on a lot last year...the memories, the traditions, the family, the craziness that is California.  It wasn't the same without you guys!  And, next summer we transfer to a new air station...who knows where we'll be going, or if we will be able to come in 2012...so, we wanted to share this moment with you while we were somewhat able to do so.

However, there is a catch...
As most of you know, getting to Kodiak, Alaska isn't easy, nor cheap.  In the summer time the average ticket is about $800.00 round trip, per person.  Well...at Christmas time the average ticket is $1,200.00 per person, round trip.  All four of us require a ticket this year to come home and spend the holidays with our loved ones; which means we've spent all of our savings to come to California, and therefore we will not be bringing presents, as we cannot afford to bring gifts in addition to the tickets.

We're hoping that you all can understand, and we ask that you do not buy us any Christmas presents in return.  Let's go back to the Holiday Spirit, and just enjoy the time we're able to spend together!

We look forward to seeing you all soon!

And we will be in touch very soon
as we work to plan out our crazy Christmas schedule!!

Making Cookies with Emmy

Emily and I had fun tonight making cookies together.  It's been a long time since we've made cookies together, but its definitely something we will have to do together again more often!  Here's a video of our fun evening...
